Black Adam (Movie Review)

Black Adam

Featuring Dwayne Johnson as the titular character, Black Adam is a superhero movie that explores morality and villainy while at the same time offering a plethora of high-powered action scenes. However, it is not a particularly memorable film. It is still entertaining to watch and is worth a look, especially if you are a fan of superhero movies.

“Black Adam” defied many initial predictions. Despite its low box office performance, it has managed to make a healthy $321 million worldwide since its October release. It is not the blockbuster Marvel blockbuster it was slated to be, but it is a decent superhero film nonetheless. This is thanks to the inclusion of Henry Cavill as Superman. The DC Extended Universe (DCEU) has been making some headway lately, although it still has a long way to go.

“Black Adam” is a commercial experiment. It repackages several familiar devices in the genre. While the movie’s ‘B+’ rating from the research firm Cinema Score indicates that the movie has some merits, it has a lot more flaws than the average blockbuster. The biggest problem is the lack of a solid villain.

The movie also fails to deliver in the character department. There are no real heartwarming moments to be found in the movie and the actor’s performance is a bit underwhelming. In addition, it has too much green screen, meaning that most of the movie looks like a computer generated film.

In addition to the main cast, the film features a slew of other characters and superheroes, but there is no clear explanation as to why they are there. The main conceit is that Black Adam is an Egyptian god’s creation. He is also a super hero who has unlimited strength and flight capabilities. But this is only part of the story.

As far as the movie goes, there is a surprisingly high kill count. In fact, the movie has more than a dozen deaths, including one very well executed death scene. The movie also boasts a surprisingly large array of s–t. For instance, Black Adam can speak every language in existence. He can also perform the utmost lonesome escapade and speak the lingo of a top-notch super hero.

Nevertheless, it is the aforementioned ‘B+’ grade that is able to best “Black Adam”. It is not a technically impressive or terribly exciting movie. And while it might be the best superhero film of the year, it is not the most memorable. While its production value is not quite up there with other recent blockbusters, its star power and a solid plot will make it more than a rehash of the past.

The movie also includes some of the more memorable gags seen in other superhero movies. For example, Adam is able to say “Shazam” when he says the magic word. There are also a few notable scenes that include blood. But, most depictions of injury are presented in an overly gimmicky manner. The film’s ‘B+’ grade should not be taken too seriously.
